With a Heavy Heart

Teddy is FOUR months old now! Can you believe it?! He's growing up so fast on me.

Here's his 4 month picture

We went to the doctor last Thursday, the 13th. He said he is perfectly perfect. He weighed 14 lbs, 13 oz (40th %). He was 25 3/4 inches long (like 80th %). His head size was like 90th %! Mommy's long and lean little boy! Dr. Chase asked us how he was sleeping, anything to be concerned about. We had started giving him cereal but he doesn't like it very much. He just spits it right back out and makes the most AWFUL face! Haha. The doctor said to wait a few more weeks to give him cereal. He also told us if we wanted him to sleep through the night, let him cry himself back to sleep (he only wakes up once). The doctor said it's like this: he has normal weight gain. If someone made him a milkshake at 3am, he'd drink it too. But does he need it? No. So there you have it. We've been trying this plan since Sunday night and so far it's been working. He hasn't cried longer than 30 mins. Sunday night he woke up twice, last night once. Here's to 12 hours!!!

Teddy is also daily doing new things! He has discovered his feet BIG TIME. He loves to roll around on the floor and grab at them.

He's also REALLY starting to reach for things. He can grab pretty well and he's starting to grab with both hands now. Here's one of my absolutely favorite pictures:

This was at the doctor's office. But he's just so darn sweet :)

A few weekends ago my parents had their big basement reveal party. It's only been since March that they've been working on it!

As you can see, Teddy was obviously laughing hard at something. He giggles so much now!!!!

He was getting pretty hungry towards UK game time, but I wanted to show off his bib Aunt Heather got him and you can really see his two teeth! He's really working on some more now too. I'm hoping his top two come in soon.

We stayed the night and Coleman, his friend from work, Tammy, and I all went to the Cowboys game that Sunday against the Bengals. It was a BLAST! Coleman's first NFL game and my second.

Us at the game. Coleman is neither a Cowboys nor Bengals fan. But you gotta wear NFL gear I guess.

The Bengals coming out on the field. It was pretty cool.

So anyways, needless to say, the first half of December was good. Last Friday however, unless you've been living under a rock, was the Sandy Hook School shooting. I have cried and cried so many times. I cried the whole way home on Friday and when I got home, I took Teddy and held him and just cried. How ANYONE could look into a sweet child's face and want to do them harm is beyond me. I think my biggest problem with the whole thing is why someone needs to own a automatic weapon, and why would you have guns in the same house as a mentally ill child. But I've held Teddy a little tighter and prayed for everyone's safety, especially in school. School is supposed to be a safe, fun place. When they started showing pictures of all the children, I just had to stay off Facebook, stop watching the news, etc. It just makes me so sad. Those children gone too soon. I did see this, and I guess it must be true: Heaven must have been short 26 angels.

Thursday night, the 13th, after our doctor's appt, my grandfather Patrick Phelps was in the VA hospital in Louisville and my mom and I went to go see him. He was very sick with cancer and had fallen in his home. He was transferred to the nursing home in Morgantown Friday, and yesterday, my mom called me at school and told me he had passed away. In the grand scheme of things, knowing how much pain he told us he was in on Thursday, I'm glad it was quick and that he's not in pain anymore. I am glad we went on Thursday to see him. I'm also very much going to cherish this moment:

Papaw meeting Teddy for the first time.

Even for only a few short months, I'm glad he got to meet his great-grandchild. We still call him by his moniker Papaw gave him "Tedrowe". I will also cherish his Papaw giving him his first dollar. In hindsight, I wish we had hung out more, been there more. This also makes me want to hug everyone a little bit tighter and spend even more time with family. The visitation is tomorrow and funeral is on Thursday.

Please keep the Phelps family in your prayers through this holiday season.
