Baby Food!

Hey everyone! I tried to update last night but things got crazy. We have a snow day today! First one for Shelby County this year! There goes my dreams for May 20! Oh well lol. May 21 sounds just as good (although they will probably take away our day in February).

Lots of changes in the Payne household. Not only am I crazy, but Coleman must be too because we are building a house! We have officially compromised on Versailles, which is a great location, plus the schools are great. We are building with Ball Homes and have found a floor plan we LOVE plus the lot is HUGE. It will be ready around the end of July. Perfect for a house-warming party for Teddy's 1st birthday!

That little punk is about to be 6 months old a week from today. He is growing up so fast on me!
Being silly with Mommy

Oh ya know, just hanging out on a Saturday afternoon. . .

Also, next Thursday is Coleman's 26th birthday. Lots of exciting things happening that day! More to come later! :)

Like I said, lots of exciting things happening. We have the house, Teddy getting so big, on Tuesday I broke up a fight at school. . . I injured my shoulder/arm in the process (just a strained muscle). All the kids think I'm pretty hardcore now tho! Haha. But I probably won't be stepping in between kids again for awhile.

Still no first words for Teddy. Just sounds like ah-goo, etc. We have also progressed into size 3 diapers. We've had lots of leaks the past week in the size 2. He can grab things really well now and is sitting up really well on his own.

Look Ma, no hands!

Our main struggle with him now has been baby food. The doctor said to hold off until he was 6 months old, psh hello, he will be in a week. We've been trying baby food since he was about 5 months old to no avail. He would NOT eat it. He's tried cereal first. We put it in his bottle, in an infant feeder, in a bowl. He would have none of it. So then we just figured maybe he'd like real food instead. So we tried carrots.

The second picture is more like how he felt about it.

He would make this God-awful face, shiver, and spit it all out. That day we tried the carrots, we gave him a little bit. He was just not having any of it. Well Coleman was holding him about an hour later, and he threw up ALL OVER EVERYTHING. It was EVERYWHERE. I felt so sorry for him. It was all over Coleman, Teddy, the recliner, everything. So we held off for awhile.

I tried green beans maybe on Monday I think. Got 3 bites in, threw up everywhere again. He was just not interested in it at all. Even when you hold up your fork to his mouth, he doesn't open his mouth or anything, which the doctor said he should be. He could care less. So yesterday, when mom was here, he was watching her eating her lunch really intently so she thought she would try green beans again.

He loves them now!!!!

Gimme some water!

So I dunno what it is. He loves them now! And he didn't get sick or anything. I'm such a proud mommy! I'll probably try green beans again today or tomorrow. He hadn't really mastered the art of swallowing until yesterday so I think that was a big part of the problem. I also have got squash to try as well. Coleman wants to try fruits but the books say to try vegetables first because if you do fruits, then babies will get used to the sweet taste and won't eat vegetables. Squash is pretty sweet though. So if he likes squash I'll probably get some bananas and see how he likes that.

Lastly, Teddy's absolutely most favorite thing in the world right now, aside from "Spot Loves Sports" at bedtime, is his jumparoo. He stays in it for hours.

This is what he does for hours. HOURS.

I've considered starting to teach him a bit of baby sign language. I've read that 6 months is the best time to begin teaching it. I don't know though, is it worth it? What do you all think? Especially since he has started saying any consonants yet? Just a thought.

Well next week, we have Coleman's birthday, Teddy's 6 months birthday, lots of house things, and much much more! I will post again soon! I'm gonna go enjoy my 3 day weekend with my son!

  1. I obviously don't have a child, but have done TONS of babysitting/nannying over the years, and I say yes to baby sign language. I've seen it in action and it's amazing. It really cuts down on baby's frustration because they can actually tell you what they want. Not so much now, but when he's older (12-18 mo.) I think it would be very useful. Good luck!

  2. He's making those legs strong for walking! I think the baby sign language is a great idea.
